Ram service intervals: To keep your Ram truck going strong
As an experienced Ram truck owner, you already know the importance of regular, factory-recommended maintenance for your Ram pickup. To help make that job a little easier for you, here's a basic list of key service intervals for any recent model Ram. While this isn't a comprehensive maintenance schedule, we'd be happy to provide that to you at Bob Allen Chrysler Dodge Jeep Ram in Danville, KY. Meanwhile, here's an overview.
First stop: The basic, regular oil change
Oil change intervals for your Ram vehicle can vary depending on the kind of driving you do. If you usually do light driving most days, you can do an oil change every 7,500 to 10,000 miles. If you drive at a more intense level and do some light towing, oil changes might need to be every 5,000 to 8,000 miles. If you do a lot of heavy towing or off-roading, your oil changes could be every 3,000 to 5,000 miles. Ask our service advisor for a recommendation.
Your helpful assistant: The Ram Oil Change Indicator
We know how busy you are and how many things compete for your attention. To make the oil change easier to remember, your Ram 1500 has a handy Oil Change Indicator. It keeps track of your oil quality and when your Ram is due for an oil change, sending you an "Oil Change Required" alert. That will happen when you're down to 15% oil left, so when you see that orange light, schedule an oil change with us as soon as you can.
Every 10,000 miles
The fundamental guideline for our valued customers in communities like Nicholasville and Lebanon, KY is to never go longer than one year or 10,000 miles between oil changes. Once you hit the 10,000-mile mark, it's time to have us do the following:
- Change your engine oil and filter
- Rotate your tires
- Check your battery and give the terminals a good cleaning
- Check your brake pads, rotors, drums, shoes and hoses
- Inspect your cooling system
- Inspect the exhaust system
- Inspect the air cleaner, especially if you drive in dusty conditions or do a lot of off-roading
Every 20,000 miles
At this point, we will obviously start with the maintenance listed above for every 10,000-mile service visit. In addition, we will inspect your front suspension along with the brake linings and do a replacement if needed. We'll also change out your cabin air filter to help keep your interior clean and fresh wherever you drive around Lexington, KY.
Every 30,000 miles
Since this is another 10,000-mile signpost, we'll take care of the "every 10,000 miles" requirements. At 30,000 miles we will also inspect your front and rear axles and check for gear oil leakage. If you are using your Ram 1500 for more rigorous duty like police work, off-roading or heavy-duty towing, we'll change the axle fluid and the transfer case fluid. Last but not least, we'll inspect the condition of your CV/Universal joints.
Every 60,000 miles
This visit incorporates the maintenance tasks listed at 20,000 and 30,000 miles. Again, if your Ram is doing heavier-duty driving, we'll inspect and probably change the transfer case fluid.
At 100,000 miles
In addition to the steps we take every 20,000 miles, we'll replace your spark plugs then flush and replace your coolant. That should be done again when your Ram hits ten years or 150,000 miles. While this is not an exhaustive summary, we can provide you with a complete maintenance schedule for your Ram 1500 or whatever you drive. Schedule your next maintenance appointment soon at Bob Allen Chrysler Dodge Jeep Ram in Danville, KY.
